Furniture & Interior Design Studio (Capstone)
One real space, one real furniture piece, resolved fully.
This capstone studio applies every prior course in the specialization to a real, complete brief, designing a furniture piece and the interior space it inhabits together, from concept through production-ready documentation and a critical review.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
- 01 Design a furniture piece and its interior context together as one coherent brief
- 02 Integrate structure, joinery, materials, ergonomics, and lighting decisions coherently
- 03 Carry a design from concept through production-ready documentation
- 04 Present and defend design decisions to a critical review audience
- 05 Reflect on sustainability and durability trade-offs made across the project
- Pairing furniture and space in one brief forces integrated decision-making
- An isolated furniture-only brief misses the specialization's spatial dimension
- Integration surfaces conflicts that studying each skill separately does not
- This is the specialization's core integrative test
- Furniture, ergonomics, and lighting should be co-designed, not sequenced
- Late integration of lighting or ergonomics often forces costly rework
- Documentation quality is part of the capstone's evaluation, not an afterthought
- This is the specialization's final practical benchmark
- A strong presentation defends decisions, not just displays outcomes
- Critical questioning is a normal, valuable part of the review process
